When Overthinking Won't Stop: The Clarity Ritual That Actually Works for High-Achieving Women
The Loop High-Achieving Women Know Too Well
I spent three weeks obsessed about blowing up my life.
Should I move? Should I quit my business? What do I actually want? I was Google image searching towns to see if they were cute. I took two road trips to potential new cities to check the vibe. I wrote pro-con lists. I talked it through with an AI tool until I felt validated. Still no answers.
The thinking was making it worse.
This is the overthinking loop that high-achieving women know intimately. It feels productive. It feels like you're doing something. But the clarity never comes, because thinking harder isn't the problem, and it isn't the solution either.
What's actually happening is a parts problem.
What Parts Work Reveals About Overthinking
In IFS (Internal Family Systems), the mind is made up of different parts, each with its own perspective, its own fears, its own agenda.
When you're stuck in the overthinking loop, there's usually a part running the show. A figure-it-out part. A protector. A part that genuinely believes if it thinks hard enough, long enough, it will find the answer that makes everything safe.
That part isn't your enemy. It's trying to help.
But it's also blocking access to the thing that actually creates clarity: Self energy. The quiet, steady, wise part of you that already knows.
Parts work, specifically this Clarity Ritual, is how you get there.
The 7-Step Clarity Ritual for Overthinkers
One morning I took my coffee down to the dock. Instead of opening another tab, I did the thing I teach my clients. The thing I apparently still need to come back to myself.
It took sixty minutes.
Here's how you can do it too:
Ungunk the hose. Dump every spinning thought onto the page.
Map your parts. Witness what's actually playing out underneath the surface.
Get curious about what each part really wants. Not what it's doing. What it wants for you.
Get somatic. Find the emotion underneath, locate it in your body, sit with it.
Give each part a voice. Let them say everything they've been holding.
Write back from Self. From the part of you that's steadier and wiser.
Let clarity arrive. You don't chase it, you create the conditions for it.
The dark cloud lifted. I stopped thinking about moving provinces. Three clear action steps came through. I went back up to the cottage and got creative work done.
That's what sixty minutes gave me. Not answers. Access to myself. And it's available to you too.

This post gives you the bones. But the full Substack piece walks you through exactly what happened on that dock, the three parts I found, what was underneath the overthinking, and what Self said that finally let the figure-it-out part rest.
